Zanzibar is an archipelago of coral islands just off the Tanzanian coast, where Swahili, Arab, Indian, and European histories meet in one salt-air embrace. Stone Town is the beating heart, but the island's quiet beaches, spice farms, and reef waters reward anyone who lingers.

A little history
The stories beneath the streets.
For centuries Zanzibar was a crossroads of Indian Ocean trade. Dhows arrived with cloves, cinnamon, and ivory, while merchants from Oman, Gujarat, and the mainland built the coral-stone town that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Omani sultans made it their capital in the 19th century, leaving behind grand houses, bathhouses, and the labyrinthine lanes of Stone Town. Independence and the 1964 revolution reshaped the island, but its cosmopolitan character survives in its food, music, and architecture.
